SEO Tip on Website Linking: The Importance of Intrasite Links
I get anywhere from 3 to 5 link exchange requests every day. This is indicative of how important linking is in the overall search engine optimization process. Most webmasters are so focused on getting links from other sites (inbound links), however, that they forget to focus on intra site links, ie, linking to posts on their own site.
Now when you first start out, you may not have a lot of material, and so won’t have much to link to.
Bu, once you start to get going, eg, 20 posts, 30 pages, 40, etc., look for opportunities to link to other pages on your site. Why is this important?
Why Intra Site Linking Is Important
Intra site linking is important for the following reasons:
1. Drives More Traffic: Intra site links help search engines define what your site is all about. Search engines use the anchor text in hyperlinks to rank sites. So, the more info you give them with each link, the more traffic they can drive your way.
SEO Intra Site Linking Tip: Never use phrases like “click here” or “read more” as anchor text. This is a wasted SEO opportunity for it doesn’t give search engines any information at all. Use your keywords, where possible, as anchor text.
2. Increases Sales Potential: The more time a visitor spends on your site, the greater chance you have of making a sale. Intra site linking introduces your visitors to page after page of relevant content, keeping them stay on your site longer.
3. Builds Authority: Intra site linking also builds your authority, because again, you’re directing visitors to more than one page of content on a particular subject. Over time, this builds your site up as an authority site. This is particularly true if you focus on a tight niche.
So instead of spending your time worrying about getting links from other sites, play in your own back yard first. If you’ve got great content that visitors want to read, they’ll happily start linking to it — without you having to nudge them.
Now, take some time to go over your website/blog to see how much intra site linking you can do. Even if you only go back through one month of posts/pages. It’ll probably get you some more traffic, which can lead to more sales. Now wouldn’t that be worth time spent?
