How to Land More Clients by Making Your SEO Writing Stand Out from Others

Today’s post was inspired by a question sent in from a freelance writer who is just sticking her toes in the waters of SEO writing.

She brings up a couple of issues I faced myself when I first started writing SEO copy, so I figured it was a good one to address in this post.
To give some background. This freelancer had written in that she was about to be laid off and she was stepping up her efforts to become a freelance writer.
Her comment (below) was one featured in a post I wrote after receiving a few emails from those laid off or about to be laid off. Her comment was:

. . . gettin laid off in 2 weeks. It’s crunch time. but w/your [SEO and freelance writing] tips I’m not worried. Thnx 4 your value!

This brings me to today’s post. She wrote:

Thanks again for answering my questions about Content Crooner [I gave her some article marketing advice] and giving me support w/ my recent lay-off.  It’s scary and exciting at the same time.  However, I know if I keep following your steps I will be fine.

Anyway, the reason why I am writing is because I wanted to know how can I differentiate my writing from others on the web. (emphasis added)  I don’t know if this appeals to other writers as well, but my dilemma is I feel like I am just regurgitating information.  For example, I am in the middle of doing research for an article for one of my clients, and it is about [detoxing].

However, when I do research I get different articles with similar content from different authors.  I am wondering how can I make my article stand out so it won’t be a re-hashed article.  My client seems to love the articles I write for her, however, I feel I can do much better.  But I think I am being too hard on myself, when I send the articles I cringe thinking that she is going to tell me to revise, revise, revise, but that’s far from the case.  She thinks that I am the best researcher in the world and knows her industry well.  Anyway, do you have any tips that you are willing to share to help us” hard on ourselves” writers (emphasis added) out?

Thanks again!

Long email, but two questions to address (the bolded text). Taking them one by one, following is my advice.

The Best Way to Make Your [SEO] Writing Stand Out

Whether you’re writing on topics you know nothing about, or subjects you know intimately – you will undoubtedly find that content of that nature already exists on the web. We live in the age of information, after all, which means that practically nothing under the sun is new.

So get over the fact that you’ll be covering new ground — it just ain’t likely to happen. That’s the first hurdle. Once you accept this, then making your writing stand out is easy.

I can only speak for myself, so I’ll tell you how I do it. To make my writing stand out, I . . .
