SEO Writing: Skills SEO Copywriters Should Have Beyond Knowing How to Write SEO Articles

A few days ago, I received this question from a recent participant in Inkwell’s SEO writing ecourse. She asked:

SEO Writing Skills Question

Hi Yuwanda,

I hope you are having a great day in Jamaica!   Florida is hot as usual.  Thank God for air conditioning!

I have quick question I ran into yesterday at a networking luncheon. After I did my introduction, a potential customer asked me if I knew html.   I answered, no, I don’t build websites, but I do provide content for your website.

Later, I realized her husband works for IBM, so I am assuming she understands what is SEO. Now, I question what she was referring to and if there is a better way to answer the question without losing her confidence in my ability to provide content.

My Answer

I sent her a quick reply yesterday, but wanted to respond in depth here today.

What the respondent is really asking is NOT about web design skills. They’re really asking . . .

SEO Writing: Answer to Questions from New SEO Writer about Working with International Clients & Rate Setting‏

The day before yesterday, I received the following email from a new SEO writer:

Hello Yuwanda,

I hope you are enjoying Jamaica! I can only imagine what the view must be like from your kitchen window. I just wanted to drop you a quick note to say THANK YOU for all of your guidance. I followed all of the steps you outlined in your ebook [on SEO writing] and started marketing for work yesterday.

This morning, I awoke to the following email from a company I contacted:

what is your charges for writing 500 words articles. i will give you work in bulk.

Thanks & regards
-KM
+00-000-000-0000

I sent him my bulk rate of 20.00 per article (10 or more articles) and am awaiting a response this morning. Now, I’m a bit freaked out. Am I charging too low? Too high? What is your experience with working with SEO companies overseas??

Very Kind Regards,
-JS
